The east of England can be reached directly from Hook of Holland by ferry. The landscape consists of gentle slopes, uncluttered back roads and villages characterized by half-timbered houses or with pastel shades and thatched roofs. A beautiful area for a first introduction to England. Close to the Netherlands, not very touristic, but a predominantly rural area where you can relax. Sandy beaches and pebble beaches alternate along the coast. London is easily accessible from this area. A day trip to Cambridge, the university city that is reminiscent of Venice, or the more northerly Norwich can also be recommended. Much can be found about John Bunyan in Bedford and the surrounding area.
